I seem to remember Russellw answering the same question a few years back.

The issue is (like said above), people going back and changing their posts after other people have given specific responses to the original text. You easily end up with chopped up and out of context threads, which I find really annoying on other forums.

A pet hate of mine is when people sell their item or get an answer to their question and go back and delete their original post with something like "edit: resolved, thanks". That post or question could have helped someone in the future, but now it's turned into a useless thread with no context.

Personally I have no issues with people correcting themselves in further posts (and I've done it).

So yeah point is, I can see the benefits you've listed, but I guess I disagree overall because I think the negatives outweigh the positives.
