Done a bit of a reversal on my opinion here.
The AU1 is definitely the best of the series. For reasons I shall outline;
- Originality. Without a doubt the biggest scorer. Unique bodykits, MAP sensors, model differentiation, wheels, etc.
- 2nd hand market value. AU1's are the modern bargain of the century.
- Greater diversity in options available. Such as OPT20, V8 in base models, no
ABS, manuals & column shift are more common, etc.
- Less likely for theft. I know this is purely circumstantial, but lets face it. Thieves are either after a VT commodore, or a T3. Depending on their demographic.
The only strike that goes against the AU1 for me is the lack of dedicated LPG. So yes, I even find its single piston front brakes quite satisfactory in public road applications....
