to fix it:
1. i took the wing off and covered the top and underside of the mounting holes with some silicon/glue stuff, i think it was called 'drip check', then put the wing back on.
2. i also drilled 3 small holes (inside the bootlid) below where the number plate sits on the bootlid to let any built up water escape. parking facing up hill seemed to help a bit.
the biggest fix, and most expensive was to buy a new house with a double garage to park in  :
others have suggested new boot rubbers might help.

Thanks. I've put on a new boot rubber, fixed one type of leak, but as yet I've not applied any sealer to the wing holes. I'll do that one next week I expect, and I may drill a few holes also, just to be sure.
